Around 1835hrs Engine Co. 20 and 45 were to 1159 Mt. Zion Marlboro Rd in Anne Arundal County for the trailer fire.  Pumper/Tanker 9 ( Lothian ) and Engine Co. 20 arrived within seconds of one another with fire showing.  Chief 45A arrived on scene and setup the PG units command.  Chief 20A and  Engine Co. 20 laid a line from the road up the driveway to establish and water supply as the crew made entry with the lineman from 9 ( Lothian ) to make an interior attack.  Within minutes AA command pulled all units out and ordered a defensive operation.  Engine Co 45 arrived on scene , assisted with water supply and various fireground operations. Units returned to service around 2100hrs.

About 3 hours after backing in the station the box was dropped for 13900 West End Farm Rd for the house bringing Engine Co. 45 , Tanker 45 , Engine Co. 20 and Truck Co. 20 along with surrounding units.  Units from Co. 45 arrived on scene with nothing evident. As the Engine from 20 pulled up to the driveway to pick up 45s line and establish water supply the OIC from 45 reported a working fire in a 2nd floor bedroom.  As the crew from 20 stretched a back up line Truck Co. 20 went on scene and setup on side Alpha.  As Engine Co. 20 backed up 45 and checked the first floor the Truck Co. searched and assisted 45 on DIV 2 on the interior and threw ground ladder and placed the aerial in service on the exterior.  After quick work of the bedroom the incident was scaled back to only units from 20 and 45.

Engine Co 20 / 45 And Asst. Chief Handle House Fire With MAYDAY, Squad Handles Tool job , Both In Anne Arundel County Only 2 Miles Apart

Around 1350hrs Engine Co 20 and 45 were alerted to the 5800blk of Little Rd in Anne Arundel county for the house fire. Units from Anne Arundel and Calvert County went on scene with smoke showing and fire showing from the 1st floor on side Alpha. Chief 20A and the Engine Co from 20 arrived on scene within minutes, the Engine setup at the driveway and prepared to draft to provide water flow to the fire ground. Asst. Chief Clark and the OIC from Engine Co. 20 headed up to the house to assist units already making an aggressive attack on the fire. Engine Co 45 arrived on scene and was given RIT assignment. As the interior crews were knocking the fire down on Div 1 it was noticed that there was now heavy fire conditions in the basement. As firefighters from Calvert 5 , Anne Arundel 9 and 42 made an attempt to find the basement stairs approx. 3 – 5 feet from the front door the floor gave way sending all 5 firefighters into the basement where heavy fire conditions were present. A MAYDAY was sounded by the OIC of Calvert 5 crew for firefighters trapped in the basement. Asst. Chief Clark , the crew from Calvert Engines 52, and Engine Co 45 without hesitation of the fire conditions now present, immediately deployed ground ladders through the front door and window to allow a means of egress for the firefighters in the basement. All firefighters were able to ascend the ladders to safety in the front yard, and were turned over to awaiting EMS units on scene for evaluation.

While crews battled the house fire an accident with people reported trapped was dispatched at Rt 4 / Rt 408 bringing a second crew on Rescue Squad 20 and the Ambulance along with AA County units. First AA units on scene advised a corrected location at the off ramp from Rt 4 onto Rt 258 at the park and ride ( not even 2 miles from the working fire ) also confirming 1 overturned and trapped after taking out 2 telephone poles , 1 light pole and rolling onto its roof. The Squad crew arrived on scene and went to work stabilizing the vehicle using Rescue 42 struts and cribbing. Once stabilized a complete blowout of the passenger side was performed. With this out of the way it was now realized the driver was still pinned by the steering wheel and dash. After approx. 30min of work the driver was extricated into awaiting EMS care
