Saturday, December 5, 2009 21:00 - As the first shot of winter for our area moved through during the day it kept the members busy and as night set the wintery weather started turning to ice. During one of the many rescue assignments Squad 20 responded to it was involved in a 9-I while sitting on the scene at Penn Ave / Water St. While none of the firefighters on board were injured the Squad took a good hit and 2 cars got totaled in the process. Shortly after backing in the station the Truck was now on the road for the reported house on fire at 1611 Pittsfield Ln in the " P " section on Bowie. Engine Co. 43 went on scene with heavy fire showing from the attic. Chief 20 arrived on scene right after and established command. Truck 20 dispatched 2nd due truck arrived to find themselves the first arrving and went to work with those duties from side alpha per command. Truck split into 2 teams , the outside team threw multiple ground ladders , vented from the outside and provided lights. The inside crew performed primary searches of the 1st and 2nd floor proving negative, venting along the way and opening up for the engine company. Truck crew stayed on scene till approx. 0300hours as there was plenty of overhaul that had to be done.
