The
Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects 100,000
people living in an area of 86 square miles. We operate
out of 2 stations that protect a primarily residential
area. Our department is a public department whose membership
consist of volunteer members and supplement career staffing
that is provided by the county.
The
Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1925,
to provide fire protection to the town of Upper Marlboro
and the surrounding communities. Upper Marlboro is the county
seat for Prince George's County. The town is home to the
County Administration Building and County Courthouse as
well as many other County Government offices.
It is with deep sadness that the United Communities Volunteer Fire Department in Queen Anne’s County,
Maryland, announces the untimely passing of Fire Chief Victor H. Size. Chief Size has been battling cancer and succumbed at 04:28 hrs this day. Chief Size was serving his second term as Chief of Department and previously served as Fire Chief with the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department in Prince George’s County, Maryland where he received his life membership. He served with the Maryland Fire Chiefs and worked with the Maryland State Firemen’s Association.
Through his position as Fire Life Safety Liaison and Emergency Management Officer with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority, Chief Size was instrumental in providing significant training programs and hands on learning experiences involving subway operations to over 15,000 emergency services personnel locally and worldwide.
He is survived by his loving wife Laurie; children: Jamie, Carrie, Adam, Traci, Tiffany; and grandson Dominick
Funeral arrangements have been made, with viewing at the Robert T. Evans Funeral Home, located at
16000 Annapolis Road in
Bowie,
Maryland on Sunday July 6, 1400 to 1700 hours and 1900 to 2100 hours. A fire department memorial service will be held at 20:00 hrs that day. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur at 10:00 AM on Monday July 7 at
Sacred
Heart
Church,
Annapolis Road in
Bowie,
Maryland. Interment will follow at
Lakemount
Memorial
Gardens,
900 West Central Avenue,
Davidsonville,
Maryland.

The Officers and Members of Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department send our condolences to the family of Cpl. Richard Findley. Cpl. Findley was killed on Friday June, 27th while on duty making a traffic stop. Our thoughts go out to Prince Georges Police Department and Beltsville Volunteer Fire Department where Findley was an active member.
Around 0445 the box was dropped for 15300Blk of Jenkins Ridge Rd. While enroute PSC advised of a better location per the caller could see flames coming from the second floor. E843 arrived on scene moments later with heavy fire showing from a 2 story single family dwelling. TK820 arrived as second due ladder truck and went to work as the fire was still not under control. TK820 worked with E843 on Division 1 with venting, searching, opening up and assisting the engine company with fire attack. TK820 stayed on scene till 0700hrs assisting with overhaul and over fireground operations. During the after stages of the fire crews found a P4 female who had succomb to the blaze.
Around 0230hrs PSC dispatched units to 14705 Van Wagner Rd reporting the house to the right of this address is on fire. E820 and E845 arrived on scene at the same time giving the corrected address of 6700 Green Grove Pl with a house fully involved on the ground. This being a non - hydrant area engine companies 20 and 45 got into place awaiting arrival of tankers to start water supply to the scene. E845 took first due engine placement and E820 took second due placement away from the scene to ensure plenty of room for all companies and tankers to be able to shuttle water with no problems. Chief 845B ( Busi ) had command throughout the incident and units worked till approx. 0600hrs before cleaning up plenty of hose and equipment. Thanks to all units that helped rack up when everything was done, it was very appreciated.
At 1750 hrs the box was dispathed for a reported house fire at 3410 Village Dr North for fire in the basement. Engine 820 arrived on the sence with fire showing from the basement.The crew stretched a 200 foot 1 3/4" handline inside were they located two rooms off in the basement.The crew made quick work of the fire and all searches were negative. Battilion 7 (Chief 20) had the command and Chief 20A had the basement Division.
Due to units operating on the 7000 Blk of Allentown rd TK820 was alerted for the building fire at 9106 Pineview Ln. First arriving units investigated and placed the remainder of the box in service. Within minutes of clearing TK820 was alerted for the second alarm at 7100 Allentown rd. The ladder truck was placed in service shortly after and transfered to company 32. TK820 returned home around 1300hrs and once again within the hour was back out on the road for a reported house fire at 4101 Ritchie Marlboro rd. Before pulling out of the station a column could be seen by the truck crew. Engine 837 arrived on scene with a 2 story single family fully involved reporting exterior ops only. TK820 arrived and operated on scene doing various task returned to service around 1500hrs. This time the the ladder truck got a break before heading to 2031 Brooks drive for the second alarm around 2100hrs. TK820 arrived on scene and was staged before returning to service.
While returning from a 43 street assignment E820 was alerted to Leeland Rd / Oak Grove Rd for the auto , a spot notorious for car’s getting dumped and lit off. E820 and the chief arrived on scene to find as we all knew an auto well off. The crew made quick work of it and the engine returned to service within 20min.
Around 2330hrs PSC dropped the box for 2947 Chester Grove Rd reporting fire in the basement. TK820 responded with 6 volunteers as the first due truck. Chief 837 went on scene with heavy fire showing requesting the task force. TK820 arrived on scene and went to work throwing ground ladders and performing primary searches / ventilation. TK820 stayed on scene till approx. 0110hrs to provide lights for overhaul.
Around 0144hrs PSC started recieving calls for 9501 Tiberias Dr for the house fire. PSC dropped the box bringing TK820 as the first due truck ( due a bay door malfunction in the truck bay SQ820 ran the call ). While enroute PSC advised units they were now recieving multiple calls reporting flames coming from the house. E845 went on the scene moments later with heavy fire showing from both floors of a single family dwelling. SQ820 arrived on scene and split into 2 crews. One crew handling ground ladders, outside utilities, and running lights where needed. The second crew went inside to assist units on an aggressive interior attack. The interior crews encountered heavy fire and high heat conditions throughout the house. SQ820 performed primary searches and ventilation operations on the first floor. SQ820 stayed on scene until approx. 0500hrs for extensive overhaul operations.
Around 1030am sunday morning the truck arrived with this years christmas tree delivery. Thanks to all the members who came out and help set up the lot , unload and count christmas trees, all the help is appreciated. The christmas tree lot will be open from around 4pm - 8pm Mon - Fri , and approx. 11am - 8pm on the weekends. Any questions contact station 20 at 301 - 952 - 0938 and ask for any volunteer officer.
