Passing of former Mayor, and current Commissioner Wanda Leonard
The Officers and Members of the Marlboro VFD are saddened to announce the passing of former mayor and current town Commissioner Wanda Leonard. Wanda was a great friend of the department and helped us with many issues in addition to her regular duties, and was often present at our departments meetings. Last year the department officially voted her as an honorary member of the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department, her loss will be felt by all and offer our thoughts and prayer to her family, fellow town officials, and friends.
This message is from current Town Mayor Linda Pennoyer:
A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM MAYOR LINDA PENNOYER:
“We are heartbroken to share the news that sitting Town Commissioner, and former Town Mayor, Wanda M. Leonard passed away early this morning at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, Maryland. We are all devastated and shocked by her sudden passing. Wanda was not only a fellow Commissioner; she was a personal friend.
Besides being a good friend, Wanda also made tremendous contributions to the Town of Upper Marlboro. I know she was especially proud of her work with our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Town’s first Municipal Government Academy, and so many other things. As more information about funeral arrangements becomes available, we will share it with you. For now, please pray for her family and her many friends. We will miss her smile and energy more than words could ever say. This is a tremendous loss to the Town of Upper Marlboro.”
