The officers and Members of the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Julian “Jay” Tucker on 03/25/2021. Jay as he was know by most is a life member of the Marlboro VFD and was serving as President of the Department this year. His passing is a huge loss to the officers and members of the department, the Prince Georges County Volunteers, the county and State. He will be missed by all, and we ask that you keep Jays’ family, friends, and fire department family in your thoughts and prayers.
Jay joined the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department in 1970 and was one of the original members of Company 45. He moved to Cedarville in 1976 and joined the Baden Volunteer Fire Department. In 1980, he moved to Brandywine and joined the Brandywine Volunteer Fire Department. When he returned to Maryland in 1991 after being in Florida for his job, he rejoined the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department. He has held the positions of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, Vice President and President.
He has been an active member of the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, chairing several committees and serving as President for two terms in 2002 and 2003. He was a certified Pro-Board Level 3 Instructor, SCBA Fit Test Instructor, First Responder, as well as serving as a Volunteer Division Chief. Jay was elected to the Prince George County Volunteer Fire Commission in 2013 to 2019.
With over 50 years of experience, Jay has been instrumental in getting things done. In 2002, he started the process of obtaining insurance for all volunteer apparatus, as well as working to get the LOSAP age lowered to 55. Both of these major issues were accomplished with his leadership.
As most of us know, Jay was not the type of person to just look around and see things that need to be accomplished. He took action. He asked for Thermal Imagers for all departments and started the process of getting a Canteen Unit. Again, these major tasks were completed with his direction.
Jay met his true love, Debbe, at the PGCVFRA convention in 2001. He was a true family man, spending as much time as he could with his daughter, Leslee, son, Keith, son, Guy, his wife Michelle and his five grandchildren, Ashleigh, Bethany, Madison, Guy V and AJ.
With all that said, Jay, on behalf of the Officers and members of the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department, we would like to say thank you for being a man of dedication to the fire service. We wouldn’t be where we are today without you. To the family of Julian R. “Jay” Tucker we thank you for allowing Jay to be part of our lives.
