
Station 20 Double Duty Fire Safety Events
The career and volunteer crew from Marlboro VFD, Station 20 were tasked with double duty fire safety events. The career staffing took Engine 204 to a fire safety event at a local daycare center, then returned to the station to pick up the Rescue Squad to join the Volunteers at the Montpelier Farms in Upper Marlboro for their Public Safety Day. The Public Safety Day event was hosted by Montpelier who made the theme of the fire public safety complete with a haystack sculpture of an Engine in front of the farm, the 7 acre corn maze cut into the shape of a ladder truck and police car, and the kids corn maze was cut into the shape of an ambulance. The event was attended by the Marlboro VFD with volunteers manning an Ambulance, the Chief’s Car, and Engine 202 which remained out of service for the event, and later was attended by the rescue squad. Joining the Marlboro Volunteers was county volunteer recruiter Kate Tomenelli. Allstate Agent Megan Dixon who was working with volunteer from Marlboro on a Good Hands Fire Safety Grant, and Volunteer Recruiters from the Bowie VFD. The Prince George’s County Sheriff Melvin High, his command staff, Sheriff’s Deputies and K-9 Officers were also in attendance. Approximately 1,500 kids and adults attended the event while visiting the farm and received fire safety materials. The Crews also got a visit from Montpelier Farms mascot, Monty the Cow.
