Charles Joseph “Charlie” Smith, 66, a lifelong resident of Upper Marlboro, MD died of heart failure on June 13, 2016, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD. He was Born on August 11, 1949, at Prince George’s Hospital in Cheverly, MD, Charlie graduated from high school and worked for Prince George’s County for twenty-five years. He also was a member of the Marlboro VFD as a firefighter serving in multiple Line Officer positions and then as an administrative positions eventually serving vice president 14 times between 1981 and 2006, he was also a life member for over 45 years with the department. In his spare time, Charlie enjoyed playing softball. He is survived by his sons, Charles J. Smith, Jr. of Richmond, VA and Craig Smith of Cumberland, MD; his sister Millie Weikle of Lothian, MD; and three grandchildren, Tyler Dotson, and Lauren and Nikki Mercier. The department was notified of his passing on June 13, 2016, a celebration of his life was held on June 20, at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home.
